What started out as a bright, sunny morning in the West of the Province, sadly turned out quite wet and dreary by 11:00. That didn’t stop a very large turn out of people keen to pay their respects to the fallen war veterans of our country.

The Last Post was bugle-played to signal the start and end of the two minutes’ silence. Sheltering under umbrellas from torrential rain, the Brethren braved the weather to witness a fitting tribute to the fallen servicemen of the 1st and 2nd world wars, whose names were read out in turn by children from the three local secondary schools.

Many poopy wreaths were then laid in turn, commencing with The Lord Mayor of Penwortham, finished off by a representative cohort of children from the local primary schools. Lostock Hall Silver Band led the singing of abide with me and the national anthem -which sadly, many attendees didn’t seem to know the words to - and a piper led the proceedings to and from the memorial.
